Hay and Mini-Bales
We've downsized the hay bale!
Hay is an important part of any rabbit's diet. All rabbits should be offered hay at least a few times a week in order to help maintain their digestive systems.
Full sized hay bales aren't always easy to handle though. Unless you have a LOT of rabbits, it takes a long time to use up a 60 pound bale, and it gets very messy very quickly. Those little bags of hay in the pet store are expensive and often of unknown age.
I hated carrying loose hay to shows. It got all over the bunnies and all over my car! I had tried everything, from horse hay bags (still messy) to plastic baggies (no good- it sweats and gets moldy in hot weather) to Tupperware (nope- it's still plastic). I just couldn't seem to get hay from home to show without wasting it or making a huge mess.
We've found a way to downsize the hay bale for easy feeding and handling.
Only high quality hay goes into our mini-bales. Our hay is hand selected and hand tied with recycled biodegradeable twine. We know where our hay comes from! This is not the "stuff that fell on the floor!" Our hay is grown on a friend's farm in Woodstock, CT.
*2013 UPDATE* Most unfortunately, the local hay has not been good. There was precious little hay from local fields that was usable for feed, and as a result we must suspend the mini bales until we find a good hay source. Hopefully, next year's crop will be better.
If you need mini-bales for winter stock, please contact us. We'll be happy to accommodate orders for local pick up or delivery (charges may apply based on distance).
